It's just that horror used to be an innovative and subversive genre, pure cinema even. But I just have no desire to see any of the films of Eli Roth and co because according to all the commentators I respect, as well as being nasty and gratuitous, they have absolutely nothing to say. Don't really like the 'torture porn' tag - it's something of a journalistic invention, in my opinion. Also - though they're not performing Beethoven's Pastoral - I happen to consider The Strokes to be the best of Western music in this awful decade. And they just get better. So far, at least.
